Tops for Your Wardrobe in 2011

By Jake Worrell

The most important part of any wardrobe is the top. You can take any pair of jeans or slacks and make several different outfits as long as you have different tops. Tops don’t have to be expensive to look good either. Cheap tops can be found in many places including discount stores, thrift shops and yard sales. As long as you know what you are looking for, what size top you wear and how much you are willing to spend, the sky is really the limit.

When shopping for cheap tops, the main thing to keep in mind is the type of fabric it is made of. Unless it is warm outside, you want a shirt made of thicker fabric instead of the thin, almost see-through fabric that many clothing stores have on the shelves. This thinner material is okay for warm weather, but if you want to wear it in the cooler temperatures, it would be best to pair it with another top or a camisole. You should also be careful when wearing shirts made of thinner material as they are more likely to get holes or wear out quicker. You can find plenty of tops at affordable prices that are made of high quality fabrics.

It is also important to look at the stitching job on the tops. Sometimes, cheap tops can have shoddy stitching that falls apart with the first wash. If the stitching looks like it could easily rip out, don’t buy it. Not all affordable tops have bad stitching. It is just something you will need to look closely at when shopping. When evaluating the stitching job on the tops, don’t just look at the bottom hem. Also pay close attention to the stitching around the sleeves. If the stitching is too loose on the sleeves, it can cause problems by getting snagged on sharp corners when you move your arms.

Shopping for cheap tops doesn’t have to be a stressful event. As long as you keep in mind what you are looking for, what is affordable, the type of fabric used and the stitching job, you will be just fine. Affordable tops come in all sizes and colours, so find comfortable tops to display your distinctive personality and have fun. Fashion is all about you and who you are, so don’t be afraid to make a statement with the tops you decide to wear.

By Aisa Patricks

Ankle high and knee high boots are among what women love to wear to the office. Soft leather boots with calf hide leather uppers look beautiful on your feet especially during the cold months. They conserve body heat and protect your legs from the freezing weather. In fact, knee and thigh high boots figure prominently in the fall and winter line-ups of all fashion houses. Many women are fond of wearing their knee-high boots under a leather trench or fur coat to complete their look.

High heeled stiletto shoes never fail to create a sophisticated aura. Also, high heeled ankle high boots look unbelievable with almost any kind of dress. A visit to a few online fashion stores like Gucci reveal lots of suede and high grain leather ankle-high boots in the most appealing styles. Because $1,250++ per pair is more than what most ladies are willing to spend, some women opt to go for the other brands. Brands like Anne Michelle carry some of the most stylish non-leather boots at wallet-friendly prices. More upscale pairs can be had from the more famous brands like Kenneth Cole, Gucci, Prada, and Ralph Lauren.

Go Local, Go High End with Ralph Lauren Boots

Going local doesn’t mean compromising your fashion sense. With brands like Ralph Lauren, the only thing you give up is the ridiculously high price tags that Italian and French brands command. It doesn’t matter if a Gucci or Armani trench coat tells the world that you’ve arrived. It also tells the world that you’re not very practical or prudent. Check out the Ralph Lauren website, and other e-commerce sites like Neiman Marcus. For people who simply want Italian footwear, it can be comforting to know that many Ralph Lauren boots are made in Italy, like its Iselin line. Its lovely stiletto heeled ankle high Colleen Flamestitch pair uses imported Italian calfskin leather, too.

Get Them from Wholesalers

Whether imported or local, it pays to get the latest trends from wholesalers instead of retail shops. Get stuff at great prices that are lower than official e-commerce store. You don’t have to pay top dollar just to be stylish. Trends come and go so make sure that you are also practical. After visiting the office website, do some online research for sites that carry wholesale shoes and boots in the design that you want. Do this and you are sure to save money.

3 Popular Costume Wigs of the Ancient Times

By Paul Richerd

Costume wigs have a very interesting history. Are you aware that wigs were initially used in Egypt as a protection for the head from the heat? Later on they made their appearance in Rome for a very short while as fashion accessories.

There on, they appeared again in Europe but this time their appearance was for purely practical purposes. They were used to protect the hair from head lice. They once more became and stayed as fashion accessories when King Louis XIV wore them for amusement. The rich nobility then adopted the powdered wigs and later on they were manufactured in many colors.

There are three types of popular wigs that can be worn for plays or parties. They make a fashion statement and are also a representative of their era.

1. Periwigs – Full Bottom wigs and Bob wigs – If you are doing play or are going to visit a British theme party, you can wear either the full bottom wigs or the Bob wigs. It will help you greatly if you know the character that you are playing. Full Bottom wigs were mostly worn by the judiciary and some of the old-fashioned nobility of the British court. The young men preferred powdered short wigs. By the 1750, powered short wigs was the fashion and full bottom wigs had vanished.

To wear either of these costume wigs, you need to wear a long tailcoat. If you are a stuffy judge, a full bottom wig with black tailcoats will suit the occasion well. In contrast to the bob wigs worn by men, women wore wigs with curls falling on either side of the face. These costume wigs were available in platinum blonde and other colors as befitted the nobility.

2. Afro wigs – There has been a tremendous change in the use of costume wigs from the 1750s to the 1900s. Wigs are the fashion even now but now they are used in parties. You will rarely find a party where young men or women wear colored Afro wigs to set a mischievous mood to the party. It can be in a single color or multi-hued.

3. Dreadlocks wigs – Dreadlock wigs are popular too owing to their use by the famous pop groups. When you are choosing dreadlock wigs, you can buy brown or black costume wigs to give your costume an authentic look or alternatively, you can choose colored dreadlocks. There are many people who choose to grow their dreadlocks and are offended by the sight of colored dreadlocks.

When you buy costume wigs, you need to take good care of them so that they last longer. Wash them as recommended. The above 3 types of wigs need washing after 10 – 12 uses but wash them with the shampoo that is recommended for them and condition them too. If you feel that the wig need styling, don’t attempt to do so yourself. Take it to a wig maker who will make the necessary alterations for you. Caring for them will help them last a long time.
